Chiba City was founded in 1921 （ Taisho 10, 1921 ） and has a history of over 100 years with a population of approximately 980,000.
It became an ordinance-designated city in 1992 （ Heisei 4 ）, and celebrated its 30th anniversary of becoming an ordinance-designated city in 2022 （ (2022 ）).
In 2026 （, we will celebrate the 900th anniversary of the establishment of Chiba, when Tsuneshige （, a descendant of Hei Takamochi of the Kammu Heike clan, moved his headquarters to the current location of Inohana, Chuo-ku and took the name "Chiba".
